Three Recommended Amendments
to the Short Stay Levy Bill (2024)

1. Remove additional local council powers

The State Government should be the sole administrator. The current bill allows 79 individual local councils across the state to determine their own regulations, including additional taxes, nightly caps, and regulatory layers for short-term rentals.
2. Remove additional powers of strata

Body Corporates should not be given wide ranging powers. Instead, the State Government can include tighter management controls, including the use of technology to manage concerns if needed.
3. Exemptions for key workers, disabled individuals, and domestic violence survivors

These bookings and revenue need to be exempted from the 7.5% tax.
